LOTUS CLUB HISTORY

Founded on February 19th 1989, by brothers Moisés, Elias and Ali in a time when Jiu Jitsu was not as

well known as it is today. Lotus Club always maintained its traditions; where quality of life and

respect are priorities. The competition teams of Lotus Club are well known in São Paulo, boasting the

largest number of titles. Today Lotus Club has broken boundaries and developed in other states as

well as countries all over the world, such as the United States (Florida, Arizona, Washington, New

York…), Japan and New Zealand, among others. The origin of the academy is in the district of Santana,

in the northern region of São Paulo, a region that harbors a large number of branches in the central

region as well south, east, and west and in other cities in the state of São Paulo, Mato Grosso,

Ampá, Santa Catarina and so on. There are now over 100 black belts promoted by Master Moisés Muradi,

a Fifth Degree Black Belt. Here at Lotus Club New York we are so very proud to be apart of such a

rich heritage of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and feel honored even more so to be a part of Lotus Club, with

it’s great Masters and fighters.

The Symbolism of the Lotus Flower 

The Lotus Flower is regarded throughout the Orient as a symbol of purity, spiritual growth and explicit beauty.

Everyone knows that the Lotus flower is born in mud, its long stem emerging through and finally its beautiful petals opening. The representation of this flower serves as an inspiration to all. According to this belief, any man born before poverty and problems can overcome all difficulties and emerge into society, strong and well balanced.

Our Master still remembers the old story and example of this flower:

When asked by his disciples about what Jiu-Jitsu is, the master replied…

“Do you really want to know?”

The disciples began to imagine many interpretations, so the master told them…

“Jiu Jitsu my friends, is a flower, not just any flower but a flower that is born atop a mountain with rocky terrain. This flower can absorb nutrients necessary for survival among the toughest of rocks, where there are but small bundles of light, just enough to capture energy and become glorious!”

“And man to learn the true Jiu Jitsu has to be bold like this flower.

He needs courage and persistence to reach that glorious place”
